CFPB Publishes Annual FDCPA Report for 2024

The CFPB recently published its annual report for 2024 on the FDCPA.  One of the CFPB’s highlights was rental debt collection.  Specifically, the rental debt collection highlight focused on rental debt not actually owed, the infusion of consumer financial products and services into the rental market, debt verification, information quality, and price fixing.  Of note on the latter topic, the CFPB stated that debt collectors collecting on bills that are inflated due to illegal price-fixing may be violating the FDCPA, regardless of whether the debt collectors know that the bills are inaccurate for this or any other reason.
