Fannie Mae Set to Accept Third Party Homeownership Education Providers

Early this month Fannie Mae announced it would begin accepting qualified third-party providers to perform homeownership education and counseling beginning on January 1, 2022, along with several other minor changes to the Selling Guide.  In addition to homeownership education changes, Fannie Mae will no longer acquire ARM loans using an index based on constant maturity treasury securities based on prior announcements.

Under the Homeownership Education Program, lenders are directed to continue to use the Framework Homeownership, LLC (Framework) online education program for courses completed on or before December 31, 2021, unless an exception applies.  Starting January 1, 2022, lenders may use third-party providers to administer the homeownership education program provided the program meets certain standards.  Framework will still be an option for lenders to use going forward.
