Florida Prohibits Fees for Security Freezes on Consumer Reports

Florida recently amended its provisions governing the fees consumer reporting agencies can charge to a consumer for placing, removing, or temporarily lifting a security freeze on their consumer report.  The amendments take effect on July 1, 2018.

Prior to amendment, Florida law authorized consumer reporting agencies, subject to certain limited exceptions, to charge up to a $10 fee to consumers electing to place, remove, or temporarily lift a security freeze on their consumer report.  As amended, such agencies are prohibited from charging a consumer a fee for such services.
