Louisiana Issues Rules for Remote Online Notarization

Louisiana recently established rules under Chapter 46, Section 101 et seq. of the Administrative Code to add Section 144 related to remote online notarizations.  The rules are effective immediately.

Notaries public that are currently commissioned and in good standing may perform online notarization acts after meeting certain additional requirements, including submitting an application and successfully completing additional educational requirements.

The rules also provide requirements for sufficient identification of the party, including the administration of a quiz or an analysis of biometric data.  Parties must also provide a current government-issued photo ID for identification purposes.

The rules further provide for required technology to be used for remote online notarizations and the storing of the electronic recording of such acts.

The rules can be found here.
