New York Prohibits Telemarketing during State of Emergency

Telemarketers are currently prohibited from doing business in New York under the existing state of emergency following Executive Order No. 202 declaring a Disaster Emergency in the State of New York.  A law passed by the New York legislature in December 2019 prohibits telemarketers from knowingly making unsolicited telemarketing calls to anyone in an area in New York under a declared state of emergency.  New York’s current state of emergency in response to the COVID-19 pandemic is slated to last through April 6, 2020; however, the declaration may be modified or extended by the Governor at any time.
