Virginia Recognizes Electronic Documents Notarized in Other States

Virginia recently enacted House Bill 1889, which amends the applicable definition of “notarial act” to recognize out-of-state notarizations of electronic documents by notaries who are commissioned in the out-of-state jurisdictions where the notarizations take place. This change will go into effect on July 1, 2025.
