Many companies were eager to apply for, and receive, PPP loans during the uncertainty surrounding COVID-19 in early 2020. But as the pandemic burned on, the Small Business Administration began implementing new rules and guidance for PPP loans and subsequent forgiveness. Now that companies are seeking forgiveness of those loans, the SBA is trying to enforce strict requirements for forgiveness, leaving companies in a difficult position not foreseen at the beginning of the pandemic.
